	The object of this note is to examine the ideas of
(Quine 1969) from the standpoint of artificial intelligence.
Specifically, we ask what notions of kinds, similarity and
xxx we should build into a robot in order that it will
successfully accomplish the tasks we give it. Such
a treatment overlaps in some respects Quine's references
to natural selection, but we hope our treatment will be
sharper, because what amounts to a {\it just so story}
when we talk about evolution becomes a design doctrine
when we talk about robots.
